Let Me Digress

I’m an avid eBook reader. I love my Kindle. I love reading on my phone, on the iPad.

When it comes to eReaders, it’s just so amazingly convenient to be able to take some lightweight bit of tech in my handbag and know it holds hundreds and thousands of books. And if I want to get a new book while I’m waiting at the train station, or in the office, or anywhere, I can just flick across and purchase it on my phone or whatever, and download it in a flash.

As a reader, I adore eBooks.

But as a writer, there is no better sensation than holding a physical, published book in my hands that contains words by me. It’s something I’ll never get over.

Here’s the latest – TRANSCENDENT, the anthology by Transmundane Press, just out:

It’s a beautiful looking book and one you absolutely will want to pick up. Available in the usual places, here are the Amazon links:

TRANSCENDENT has been launched!

What’s the best way to kick off a New Year? With a brand new publication out in the world.

TRANSCENDENT – the new anthology from Transmundane Press –  is out now folks, just in time to kick off 2019 with a very cool read.

I’ve a story in this one that has been kicking around in my head for a long, long time. Like, a couple of decades worth of long time. I wrote an early version of it back when I was an undergraduate (and not to make myself feel old or anything, but that was over twenty years ago now *gasp*).

I didn’t quite have the skill to pull off the story I wanted to at the time, so I shelved it and forgot about it. Until a few years later, when I dug it out and tried again. Still nope, couldn’t make it do what I wanted it to do. So back on the shelf, to the back fo the mind, forgotten. Until the next time. Then the time again.

Until just about a year ago when I dusted it off after a long time forgotten and though, you know, I could make something of this. I think I could write this properly now.

So I did. And the result was Dark Moon, which appears in TRANSCENDENT, and which is a wonderful anthology of dark dreams and hallucinations, visions and nightmares.

TRANSCENDENT Cover Reveal

Hey folks, just popping in to say Transmundane Press have a new anthology coming out later this year called TRANSCENDENT and they’ve just released the cover. And yes, I have a story in this one. Very excited to be a part of it!

A parallel dimension exists below the surface of reality.

Its doors swing open every time we sleep, allowing us passage into the land of DREAMS, a plane rich with exotic fantasy and limitless bliss. Within this wonder world, however, lurk dark corridors and terrible creatures—some unfortunate travelers never escape the NIGHTMARES waiting in the shadows.

Many have tried bridging our worlds. Seekers and wise men have meditated for VISIONS and ingested intoxicants for HALLUCINATIONS in hopes that the veil between our realms will thin, allowing access to all the thrills, joys, and horrors beyond our senses.

TRANSCENDENT is an open gate, a gangway linking our realm to the shimmering sphere where nothing is certain and anything is possible.

Aurealis #110

So folks, I’ve a story out in the latest edition of Aurealis magazine. Yay!

Aurealis was actually the very first magazine I was ever rejected by. It still stands as the most painful writing rejection I’ve every copped, too. Well deserved, mind you. The rejected story in question was… well, let us just say “rejectable” in sense of the world.

Ah, the fun of writer milestone. My first rejection, awwww…

Anyway, to have a story in Aurealis now, all these years later, is something I’m pretty darn chuffed about. It’s set in a world decimated by war, but now well into recovery… except for the protagonist, a woman suffering from a chronic psychotic mental illness, who now faces a life without medication. Because the post-apocolypse is not just peopled by the neurotypical and while everyone must fight to survive, it’s even more important is to find others to survive with.

Go here and get a copy. Aurealis is a brilliant magazine and it’s always worth a read: Aurealis #110 (Chimaera Publications)

Beautiful Lies, Painful Truths

For anyone who’s ever pondered the Answers to life… I’ve a story called “Answers”, in a new antho from Left Hand Publishers.

Beautiful Lies, Painful Truths v2. It’s a wonderful anthology and you can buy it here.

I’m not promising you’ll find the answers to life, death or humanity in my story (and if you do, it might be time to seek some therapy), but it is a story about deity-like, omniscient, maybe-gods engaged in eternal opposition… who are just as confused to the meaning of it all as the rest of us.

Also, the fine folks at Left Hand Publishers have created the most beautiful book trailer. Seriously, give this a watch:
