About

So, about me, then.  Or should this be about the site in general?  There’s not a lot to say about that, except I need somewhere to experiment with the software and setup.  I’ve never heard of .php files before and now I’m having to modify and even write the things.  And don’t get me started on CSS style sheets and xml code.  I’m a writer, I know nothing about coding and internet tech stuff.

But I can play in the technical background of this site without worrying so much.  If I do something causing this page to go down for the count and it only manages to drag itself up by the ropes barely a whisper before the final 10 count, then it won’t really matter much.  It’s not going to collapse the family business or totally un-impress potential photography clients.  It’ll just look like I’ve bitten off great chunks without the dental ability to handle it, and anybody who knows me knows that’s hardly unusual.

And about me..?  Not all that much to say about that, either.

I’m a Melbourne writer and photographer who lives in paradise, but commutes to the grime most days to pay for it.  When writing doesn’t pay, research often does, so I’ve spent a lot of years as a researcher and analyst, which is nowhere near as exciting as it sounds.  And if you think it doesn’t sound exciting, it’s even less exciting than that.

Making regular appearances throughout this blog are those I share home and life with:  my dear partner, the photographer extraordinaire; his boy and girl childs, the part-time residents of our house; a couple of highly egotistical cats; and the stubborn ghost of a beautiful basset.  We also share our part of the world with a mass of screeching cockatoos who survive by eating the wood from our balcony and a series of big, hairy huntsmen spiders who I inevtiably have to rescue with a drinking glass and bit of paper before Dear Partner can suck them up in with the vacuum.  We fit all this in amongst a serious number of cameras, computers and books, but haven’t got lost between tottering piles of paper and equipment yet.

I don’t Twitter, I rarely log in to My Space and I’ve long forgotten my password for Facebook, but I do blog and this is it.  Read.  Enjoy.  Comment.  Send me abusive notes, go on, you know I love it.

Writer, photographer, researcher.

kahmelb is the handle you'll most often find me using online, well, at least on those sites where I'm happy to be publicly identified and which wouldn't make my mother blush. Much.
